Topic and short background:
Migration from the Philippines to Austria dates back to the 1970s triggered by the bilateral agreement between the two countries. Filipino nurses, women in particular, were recruited. They traveled into the unknown in times without smartphones and without the Internet. Many stayed, married and started families. Now, the second generation is speaking out. Those who have roots in two countries, stand between the cultures and keep asking themselves questions about their identity.
What shapes me as a child of Filipino migrants? “Common Diversities: Junge Filipin@s im deutschsprachigen Raum“ is the first book written by and about second and third generation Filipinos in German-speaking countries in German and English.
In view of the chronic shortage of skilled workers, labor migration is once again a hot topic in Austria. What are the experiences of Filipino migrants of the past and what lessons can be learned from them?
Due to the current situation regarding new confirmed SARS-CoV2 cases per day in Austria, we kindly ask you to present either a valid Covid certificate or a valid test result upon entry.
