Vienna, Austria \u2013 \u201cDas Philippinische\u00a0 Wien\u201d \u2013 The Philippines in Vienna<\/strong> \u2013\u00a0 a pioneering event of the Sentro ng Wika at Kultura ng Austria at Pilipinas had been successfully staged in Vienna\u2019s frequently visited shopping lane \u2013 Viktor Adler Platz, Favoriten, 1100 Vienna. This project was supported by the Cultural Department of \u00a0the Municipality of Vienna (MA 7) for the third year in a row.<\/p>\n

The half-day event showcased a broad array of Filipino culture, including Filipino foods, live music, folk dancing and interviews centered on cultural integration.<\/p>\n

Christian Namiss, member of the Core Team of Sentro elaborated the objective of the event.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe try to show to the Austrians the rich culture of the Filipinos through folk dances, singing and Filipino foods. \u00a0This event is also a way to \u00a0present the Filipino community and its culture to other migrant groups in Austria, particularly in Vienna,\u201d Namiss said.<\/p>\n

Christian Namiss elaborated that the program \u201cDas Philippinische Wien\u201d aims to highlight \u00a0<\/em>the Filipino-Austro youth and their active role in the community; and stress the importance of respecting every culture.<\/p>\n

General comments of the audience, both Austrians and foreign nationals who witnessed the event are positive.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is very entertaining and the cultural displays of the event promote understanding and sharing of culture. It is also a way of building unity and solidarity among all communities.\u201d a turkish national said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Philippines in Vienna\u201d is an excellent expression of solidarity in the \u00a0community and I am glad\u00a0 that I participated in it,\u201d one of the participants commented.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe good thing is, makikita nila kahit paano ang pagkakaisa ng Pilipino at mabibigyan tayo ng puwang upang ibahagi ang ating kultura,\u201d\u00a0a Pinoy from the audience said.<\/p>\n

Arlene Casta\u00f1eda, founder of Sentro is very\u00a0 proud and humbled to lead the event and is\u00a0 very thankful to the participating Filipino community groups\u00a0 who shared their time and talents for the success of the show.<\/p>\n

Casta\u00f1eda expressed her gratitude to the \u00a0Band of philippinisches Wien,\u00a0 Bernardite Itlanas-Steiger, Maricris Castillo, Rane Aroy, Kids International Dance Synergy, Philippine Nurses Association in Austria, Enrico Roxas, Anni and Klemens Hruska, Marizel Rojas, Bikol Society in Austria and Babaylan Austria.<\/p>\n

The Sentro ng Kultura at Wika ng Austria at Pilipinas\u00a0 has been conducting various activities\u00a0 to help Filipinos and Austrians integrate into the Austrian way of living and vice versa. Though living in a foreign land, the Sentro further aims to remind Pinoys to foster and to be proud of their Filipino heritage.<\/p>\n
